National Put Quotes in Your Blog Month

So back when I was in college people had things called .plan files which they updated from time to time with different things. The one's I always liked the most were the one's filled with interesting quotes. Now we have livejournals and blogs and twitters and the like, but much fewer random quotation, which I think is sad.

Thus, to remedy the situation, I hereby declare February National Put Quotes in Your Blog Month. For every weekday during the month of February I will attempt to put a quote in my blog. To make it more interesting, I'll start with the quote unattributed, so people can try to guess where it's from, and I'll update the post at the end of the day with the information of where the quote is from, and perhaps even a little about why I like it. I encourage everyone else to put random quotations that you like in your blog.

To start us off, the opening paragraph of one of my favorite books:

"When you get down to the bottom of the bottle, as Momma used to say, this is the story of how I became a mother. I want that clear from the start. Now, it's true that mine was not a typical pregnancy. There was some magic mixed up in there, and a few million in oilfield speculation, and some people who died, and some others who wouldn't quite stay dead. It would be lying to pretend there wasn't prophecy involved, and an exorcism, and a hurricane, and I scorn to lie. But if every story is a journey, then this is about the longest trip I ever took, from being a daughter to having one."

Edited:

So as some of you knew from my recommending this book all over the place, this is the opening passage to Mockingbird by Sean Stewart. Sean is one of my very favorite authors whose books are remarkably different in tone and setting ranging from High Fantasy to Urban Magical Futurism to this book which is probably the most magical realist of his novels. I particularly like this passage because I think it is one of the best opening paragraphs of any novels, it tells you absolutely everything you need to know from minute one.

This is an excellent idea.

I will attempt to find a good quote, and post it.

Thanks!
